And that’s a wrap!
The Serenity team has been touring the country in the first half of this year.
We kicked off our conference tour with Collaboration in Aging in February, a first-of-its-kind conference that brought the senior care industry together to promote new thinking about the way we age.
From there, we traveled east to On Aging 2022 in New Orleans, where we connected with our peers to discuss the need for communication and collaboration in senior care. Our CEO Katherine Wells also spoke on the importance of communication in long-term care in her session, “The First Two Weeks: How Communication Can Bridge the Gap During the Long-Term Care Transition.”
We wrapped up our tour back in Colorado for the LeadingAge Colorado Annual Conference in May, where Katherine spoke again on the importance of communication in her session, “Why Communication is Your Superpower.”
Keep reading to learn more about some of the key takeaways from these three industry conferences.
Collaboration in Aging: Leading Change in the Senior Care Industry
Unsurprisingly, collaboration was the main theme of Collaboration in Aging. The results were profound as participants learned, discussed, and debated what’s at stake if we don’t work together and drive change.
Collaboration in Aging was designed to ignite and deliver actionable change in how we care for older adults. As the world changes, demographics shift, and expectations transform, the opportunities for improvement abound. There are many issues to be addressed in order to see progress in the quality and well-being of how we age today. The population of older adults is growing exponentially and is projected to double in 2060.
“Statistics show roughly 70% of adults over the age of 65 require paid senior care services, whether that be at home, senior living, or hospice,” said Katherine. “What we know for sure is that the 10,000 baby boomers who are turning 65 every day for the next 20 years will not accept the status quo in aging services.”
We’re proud that this event was the brainchild of our CEO Katherine Wells, who also serves as the Chief Inspiration Officer of Mavericks of Senior Living, one of the main sponsors of the event. The Mavericks were initially embarking on their own event, but wanted to extend the invitation to others within the senior care community in order to celebrate the theme of collaboration, including Greater Denver Placement & Referral Alliance (GDPRA) and Colorado Assisted Living Association (CALA).
The result? A first-of-its-kind event that empowered individuals across the senior care ecosystem to collaborate on the care of those we love the most.
On Aging: Bringing Senior Care Together
Long-term care is undergoing a massive generational and digital transformation. This transformation began pre-COVID-19, but has only accelerated since then. This acceleration was clearly felt at the On Aging Conference this year, with several conference attendees discussing how to support our older adults, from policy to technology updates.
Many attendees discussed how senior care can keep up with this transformation while providing quality care for patients. For Serenity, the answer lies in collaborative care built upon consistent communication and trusted partnerships. In fact, CEO Katherine Wells spoke on the importance of collaborative care during her session at On Aging.
During her session, Katherine walked through the first 14 days – the most crucial time for caregivers to establish a trusted foundation – and shared the communication best practices for each day. Her real-world examples showcased the impact of collaborative care on both the residents’ quality of life and the care facilities’ bottom line.
Leading Age Colorado: Reunite, Renew & Reimagine
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used to create them.” Albert Einstein
The theme of this year’s LeadingAge Colorado Annual Conference was focused on reuniting with colleagues, renewing dedication to the senior care community, and reimagining the opportunities within senior care.
During her session, Katherine spoke on the opportunity to reimagine how communication can be a differentiator within senior care.
When it comes to current communication methods, the dedicated, loving people providing care for our older adults are working in an antiquated, complex, and siloed system that was not designed for today’s world. This, alongside the global caregiver shortage and increased demand for care, means that the stakes are higher than ever, with both quality and affordability of care on the line.
Session attendees walked away with an increased understanding of the power of cross-organizational communication. The majority of attendees were incredibly pleased with Katherine’s presentation, as she received a 3.89 out of 4 in session ratings – underscoring the impact of communication across senior care.
Collaboration & Communication Across Senior Care
In attending these events, it is abundantly clear that trust is the true currency of long-term care, and open, collaborative communication can build that foundation of trust from day one.
Staff, care recipients, and their families have experienced challenges and frustrations due to siloed, antiquated, and inefficient communication methods making it increasingly difficult for providers to provide the highest quality of care.
At Serenity, we’re proud to be challenging this status quo with our platform that streamlines communication, care coordination, and education. We are connecting the formerly siloed stakeholders, including providers, care teams, older adults, and family members, across the entire senior care ecosystem.
With consistent, collaborative continuity of communication, we are finally bringing an experience of simplicity, connection and harmony.
Here’s to the future of collaboration and connection in senior care!
